Craft: Craft is an activity of making things by hand with involving person’s own skill. In details craft is a way of pastime or a profession that requires particular skills and knowledge of skilled work.
Some synonyms of craft is skill, ability, capability, art, talent, competence etc.
Paper craft: paper craft is the art of making things from paper. It is the most widely used material in arts and crafts. It lends itself to a wide range of techniques, as it can for instance be folded, cut, glued, molded, stitched, or layered.
History and Development of Crafts specially paper craft:
The word craft comes from the Middle English word for ‘strength’ or ‘skill’ derived from the Old English word “craeft” which comes from Old High German “kraft”.
Craft at first introduced in Europe during medieval times. At that time the term “Craft Guild” refers to an occupational association which typically consisted of all the artisans (and sometimes the suppliers, retailers and wholesale merchants) involved in a specific branch of industry or commerce.
East Asian Arts and Crafts
Asian art – embracing works from India, China, Korea and Japan – is noted for its mastery of different types of art. Lacquer ware, jade carving, bronzes, pottery, porcelain, Buddhist sculpture, silks and other textiles, were just some of the art forms mastered in Eastern Asia.
Paper Craft: Paper craft was first introduced in China around 100 A.D. During the fourth century, the Chinese started to cut paper for various decorating purposes especially and embroidery patterns.
From that time the journey continued and eventually paper crafting techniques entered into Europe and during seventeenth century paper maskers in Italy, Holland, Germany, and Switzerland were developing different regional styles. Today, paper crafting provides a simple, enjoyable hobby that can help bring charm in to your life. It can take your attention away from difficulties for a short time, give you a sense of productivity and achievement and is an excellent way to stimulate creativity. Now it is also the greatest way to pass time. Recycling materials as craft products are not only environmental friendly but also a good idea to save money too by using materials that are available and converting them into attractive items such as gifts for friends or family members.
